Department caters to 10 new patients and 20 follow up patients per day and about 10 pregnant Diabetics per week.
Whenever new patients are seen, detailed history, physical examination is recorded. Necessary investigations are done, and then the patients are advised as to the course of treatment. The advice consists of diet, foot care, exercise, practical training of insulin injection, adjustment of the dosage and management of Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar) etc.
The repeat patients are seen once in four to twelve weeks depending on the severity and necessary investigations are done and advice given.
On an average, there are fifteen inpatients under our care for diabetes and its complications as inpatients.
In addition to personal discussion with the patients, Junior Residents and Dietitians take part in-group discussions with the patients and their families with regard to the following so as to have a holistic approach in patient care. What is a Diabetes diet? |
The department is active in reviewing various aspects of diabetes and presenting the same in state and national conferences periodically.
The department is backed-up by a well-equipped Central Laboratory, the other speciality departments and the library.
A comprehensive DIABETIC PROFILE has been evolved to screen Diabetic patients which includes a range of all essential Biochemistry and Hematology tests, cardiac tests, namely ECG, Stress test 2D Echo, Radiology tests, namely Chest X-ray, Ultrasound screening of abdomen and pelvis, EYE Examination for vision and glaucoma and retinopathy and Dental checkup at all package rate.
The department is conscious to avoid unnecessary investigation and the aim is to keep diabetes care cost as minimum as possible.
The Department is recognized by research society for the study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) FOR TRAINING OF DOCTORS IN Certification course.
